The Dullahan

Single Review

The Dullahan by Terror Syndrome

Author: Atomic Robo Kid

I awaken to the darkness…

…a nightmare. Before me, a horseman calls out my name. I turn to run, but it’s too late! The Dullahan strikes, my soul is captured.
The Dullahan‘ by Terror Syndrome captured my attention, right from the start! It commences with dark, haunting sounds and a mysterious spoken narrative, which are both captivating and creepy in equal measure.
The Dullahan, in Irish Folklore, is a headless horseman with eyes of fire who collects souls of the unfortunate. Terror Syndrome indeed does pay homage to this legend, which will tell you plenty about the direction and tone of this single. The angel of death, of course, is worthy of praise and the ensuing darkness from the speakers will be pleasing to such an other-worldly being; But even mere mortals like you and I will have an immense time listening to this blistering, horror fuelled, metal influenced exploration.
The spoken introduction subsides, and the headless horseman jumps into action with nicely tweaked kicks and claps which provide the backbone to this driving force whilst a distorted bass is cleverly positioned to create a sonic illusion of being chased; hunted down by a galloping horse. Very able guitar work weaves through these elements creating that pleasant urge to move ( it’s quite easy to be drawn into the groove of this track). In fact, around half way there’s a catchy riff led slice of aggression, which is reminiscent of 90’s groove metal, cut up with tidy drum work which I thoroughly enjoyed.
From this point those atmospheric, almost orchestral pads are brought back to continue the track forwards. The horseman is still on the hunt, cracking his spine whip.
Will the Dullahan be calling your name next?
The track ends just as mysteriously as it started, with an eerie and haunting ambiance. I sense the headless horseman has the soul he desired this night. But, he’ll be back for more!
‘The Dullahan’ by Terror Syndrome will be enjoyed by anyone that likes their Darksynth with a measure of Metalwave steeped in Horrorsynth principles. For dark minded individuals that like to challenge their inner fears and get the blood pumping.

‘The Dullahan’ released on December 25th, 2022 and can be streamed HERE & purchased HERE
