Single Review

Aquacade by Neutron Solstice

Author: Atomic Robo Kid

We are lured into the spell of ‘Aquacade’ by a soft melody and a dominating bass, the spiralling echoed vocals hypnotise us as we become under the command of Neutron Solstice. The classic, albeit more uptempo, Dreamwave intro evolves quickly into something else, something more. The vocals are truly enchanting and well produced, those aforementioned spiralling vocals are cleverly soundscaped with reverb and whatever other magic was required to create a vocal tidal wave washing us out into the Ocean.
Of course, we all know that an Aquacade is, to quote from the Oxford English Dictionary: ‘a spectacle involving swimming and diving, usually with musical accompaniment.’ So, we shouldn’t be surprised that the track has subtle suggestions of the ocean. Alongside the vocals this is also achieved through quirky synth patterns rippling on and over other sound elements like gentle waves lapping at the shores.
The vocals lead this track and there’s plenty to hold our attention, Morgane has plenty of depth to her voice adding contrasting moments of the duality of innocence and openness and times of enchantment and mystery with passion and expression. The execution of and the mastering qualities of the vocals, combined with the lyrics, make this one incredibly catchy song.
Some of my favourite moments include thought provoking lyrics like: ‘If we could clear the sky, just to count some stars’ and ‘If we could see through clouds, just to feel the sun’. Both, for me, are powerful statements that seem to imply a barrier that needs to be overcome in order to reach a higher state of mind. A difficult struggle but with a pure reward.
Let’s clear the sky, clear our minds, make the time for that entremet palette cleanser allowing for that fresh perspective on life. Allow ourselves time to reflect before the next course of our lives, this track has the power to do just that.
‘Aquacade’ by Neutron Solstice will be enjoyed by anyone that appreciates some mystery with their SynthPop, someone that enjoys being able to sing along and indulge in a quality piece of ethereal music. ‘Aquacade’ by Neutron Solstice is available on the ‘Violet Storm’ EP, via Bandcamp, and can be heard on Spotify, links below

About The Author:
Atomic Robo Kid was manufactured in 1981 & promptly put into service at Terra 12. His primary objective was to engage and destroy the mutated alien life forms, wreaking havoc on the colonists on Terra-12. His determination and superior fire power eventually ensured the survival of the colonists. The victory was commemorated by the release of an arcade game in 1988.
Deemed unstable, his Atomic capabilities have more recently been decommissioned. Although, still a fierce adversary with fully functional lasers he is now a sworn protector of Synthwave. Releasing mixes or single track uploads most Fridays on his YouTube channel.
